Hey everyone!
Tonight is my last shift before I head out on my way. I notified my boss last week that I wasn't going to be staying at the Walkabout. He was totally understanding and offered up any help he could. He said if I decided I wanted to work again, I was welcome back here in Blackpool, or he would help me transfer to another location.
He's allowing me to stay in the residence until I leave next week to meet my sister in London. I'll be catching the train on Wednesday morning at 3am to Preston, then taking the Megabus to London from there. Should arrive around 11am. It'll be a long haul, but it'll only end up costing me about £20! The train direct would cost about £80. I'm just beginning to learn the ways of budget travelling! As long as I have no deadline, I can sit in transit as long as need be and save!
Lots has happened since my last post.
I took a day trip to Liverpool last week. What an amazing city! I took the train to Lime Street and visited Albert dock (where the Titanic sailed from) and the Beatles museum. I saw some amazing architecture! The Liverpool Cathedral, with beautiful old towers - one of the tallest in the world! Incredible stained glass and huge organ. Comparatively, the Metropolitan Cathedral was just a short walk away - very modern and not as charming. The streets were full of vintage shops, restaurants and cafes. It was a great visit and I wish I had stayed the night - I missed visiting the museum and art gallery as they were closed by the time I got there. Its definitely on my list of places to go back to.
I worked quite a few night shifts last week, and unfortunately got sick again. I've decided its the long hours (I find myself wide awake until 7 or 8am with the other residents, and haven't had a full undisturbed 4 hours of sleep in days) and smoke machine that's doing it. I cant wait to get to a hotel and have a good nights rest.
We've been lucky enough to have 3 days of full sun! On days like that, we set some mattresses, pillows and blankets out on the roof top and soak up the rays! My Canadian roommate and I have become quite good friends, and did just that yesterday. Everyones got some colour in them now! It'll be sad to leave the great friends I've made behind, and I'm hoping on coming back before I head home (whenever that is...).
This weekend is a bank holiday so its really busy in town. There's a small food festival set up in town that I'm planning on revisiting- Paella, baklava, feta cheese, sun dried tomatos, cinnamon cashews, German sausage, french crepes, O M G....
I made sure to get out and purchase a cell phone with separate local and international SIM cards before I venture on. Altogether it was £40, with credit on both cards! Good deal.
Other than that, I've spent my time socializing with everyone here! A few of us girls went out for dinner, and the other night a group of us went venue hopping. Got to see some live bands and an alternative dance bar. On my sick day I just stayed in and watched movies, went down to the pub and watched a little of the football game. There are some serious fans out there! We get quite packed on home games.
As of now, I'm working on planning my trip for after my sister abandons me (he he). My boss and his girlfriend have ranted and raved about CouchSurfing, so I've decided to give it a try. I just messaged a girl who lives in Rennes, France asking if she can show me around and possibly stay with her. I'm going to make sure to do my research though and be as safe as possible. I'll make sure to have enough on me incase I have to resort to a hostel. I dont want to stay with a psycho person. But I hear from everyone that its safe and a great tool to use when traveling. It allows you to meet a lot of great people. We'll see....
Hope everyone has an amazing Easter and a fabulous sunny weekend!! No more of that snow I heard you got =D
CHEERS!
